Trip Summary

Spend four days in vibrant Cape Town exploring its historic neighborhoods and world-class museums, including a visit with a resident family, the Cape of Good Hope, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Table Mountain. Relax in the culinary and wine capital of South Africa – the Cape Winelands. Experience the magic of Big Five safari in world famous Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve in Greater Kruger - some of the best game viewing real estate in the world.

Itinerary:

Day 1:

Arrive in Cape Town International Airport. Meet your guide and transfer to the charming Welgelegen Guest House, a 12-room property at the edge of Cape Town’s historic center with individually furnished rooms most having balconies and offering views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill or the patio below. Conveniently located just off fashionable Kloof Street, some of Cape Towns’ finest restaurants are a leisurely stroll away.

Day 2:

After breakfast, you will be picked up by your expert guide to begin a full-day private tour of the Cape Point and Cape Peninsula.

Highlights of this beautiful and dramatic landscape, where the Indian and Atlantic oceans abut, include a short cruise to Seal Island from Hout Bay and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Conclude your day at the world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a lush complex of gardens dedicated to the indigenous plants of Southern Africa.

Day 3:

Enjoy a full day tour of Cape Town with a guide and driver.

Highlights may include:

  • A drive to the Castle, the oldest building in South Africa, with its collection of Old Cape paintings and take in the Grand Parade where Nelson Mandela addressed the nation on his release in 1990.
  • The spectacular historic district which is centered about the grand architecture of Government Avenue.
  • Meet a resident family. This is a unique opportunity to see another side of African life; to look into today’s realities, ask questions and to discuss issues with local people in the comfort of their home.

Day 4:

After breakfast, go to the jetty on the Waterfront and take the boat towards Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for the majority of his nearly 30 years in prison. This is a fascinating introduction to the recent history of South Africa and the dramatic changes within our own lifetimes.

Afternoon at leisure.

Day 5:

After breakfast, enjoy the day with a private guide exploring the highly scenic Cape Winelands. Check-in at the small and intimate River Manor Boutique Hotel & Spa. Centrally located on a lovely tree-lined avenue in Stellenbosch, River Manor is comprised of two historic houses and has been designated a historic monument. The hotel also features a small spa.

Overnight: River Manor.

Day 6:

Day at leisure to relax and enjoy the lovely Winelands.

Optional upgrades include:

  • For those interested in food and wine, we can arrange a hands-on cooking lesson with the chef who is responsible for the renaissance of Cape Malay cooking, a cuisine that is a hybrid of Indian and Indonesian cooking with a hint of Africa.
  • For golf lovers we are happy to pre-book tee-times at the famed Gary Player-designed Erinvale and the Jack Nicklaus-designed Paarl Valley.

Tonight, we recommend clients enjoy dinner at one of the Winelands’ fine restaurants.

Overnight: River Manor.

Day 7:

You will be transferred to the Cape Town Airport, where you will board a flight to KMI in order to continue on to the renowned Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park.

Stay in a comfortable and spacious suite that includes private viewing decks overlooking the surrounding bush.

Enjoy drinks in the bush as the sun sets over the savannah.

Embark on a spotlight drive through the bush to explore the nocturnal life of the savannah.

Return to camp for dinner at the lodge or in the open-air boma.

Overnight: Notten’s Bush Camp.

Day 8:

After an early morning tea or coffee, depart in 4 x 4 vehicles with a ranger and tracker for a game drive in the bush.

Return to the camp for a lovely breakfast.

After breakfast, optional game walk with an expert ranger to learn about conservation and wildlife at a different scale.

Lunch in the main lodge or the deck.

Tea, coffee and cakes will be served on the veranda for an afternoon at leisure.

Depart on an afternoon game drive in open 4 x 4 safari vehicles in search of Africa’s Big Five: Elephant, Rhino, Leopard, Buffalo and Lion.

Enjoy drinks in the bush as the sun sets over the savannah.

Embark on a spotlight drive through the bush to explore the nocturnal life of the savannah.

Return to camp for dinner.

Overnight: Notten’s Bush Camp.

Day 9:

Wake up before sunrise.

After an early morning tea or coffee, enjoy a game drive and continue the itinerary of the day before.

Return to camp for dinner at the lodge or in the open-air boma.

Overnight: Notten’s Bush Camp.

Day 10:

Wake up before sunrise.

After an early morning tea or coffee, depart in a 4 x 4 vehicles with a ranger and tracker for a game drive in the bush.

Return to the camp for a lovely breakfast.

After breakfast, you will be transferred back to KMI Airport for your return flight to Johannesburg and your flight home.
